Jealousy

Jealousy – (jel-uh-see)
Exhibiting signs of distrust or feelings of suspicion over the fidelity of one’s partner

“Who is she, Grant? Who the fuck is she?” Maria Carroll shouted at her husband from across the living room.

“What the hell are you talking about?” he responded as he dried his hair, still damp from the shower.

Maria stomped across the room and showed Grant his phone. “Here,” she pointed at a number from his call history. “This number. Right here. Who is this? They’ve been calling you the last two weeks. Are you too stupid to delete your whore’s number?”

Grant tried to grab the phone from Maria’s hand, but she quickly pulled it away and held it behind her back. He tossed the towel onto the nearby loveseat and took a deep breath. As a police officer, he was trained to de-escalate situations, but he always found it most difficult to handle the sudden, and as of lately more frequent, outbursts from his wife. The two had been married for seven years and had gone through rough patches in the past, but Maria’s demeanor was beginning to become an issue. He silently stared at her, waiting for her posture to relax, and then made a quick swipe for his phone, pulling it out of her unsuspecting hand.

“This number?” he pointed. “I have no idea. It’s probably some telemarketer. Look, it says it’s from Estrada Beach. Who do I know from Estrada Beach?”

Maria tried to get the phone back, but Grant held it high above his head, jerking it back and forth from her attempts to grab at it. “Telemarketer? You expect me to believe that?”
