Materialism – (muh-teer-ee-uh-liz-uhm)
Focusing on value and possession rather than things of a spiritual nature
After saying their good-byes and collecting their winnings from the rest of the foursome, Peter Princemoore and Dr. Graham walked into the pro shop at the Deerwood Hills Country Club. Most of the golfers had started making their way back to the clubhouse as the sun was beginning its final descent for the evening. Peter and Dr. Graham had just finished a round of 18; pockets flush with new cash happily taken from their opponents. While not all golfers made wagers while playing, Peter and Dr. Graham had both the means and desire to bet on the outcome of each hole. Today had been quite a lucrative day for the two regulars players.
The two gentlemen turned in their scorecards and the key to the cart then stood around for a few minutes and chatted with some of the other players. As more golfers began to return to the clubhouse, Peter and Dr. Graham left the pro shop and walked into the attached restaurant, Gophers. Seeing that many of the seats had been taken, the two began walking towards the bar. Dr. Graham caught someone waving out of the corner of his eye and turned in that direction. He saw his friend, Dave, sitting across from a young, attractive redhead and diverted his course to their table with Peter in tow.
“Dave. You still coming over tonight?” the doctor asked.
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world. Have a seat,” Dave offered.
